This is an experiment using FM3 Buddha Machine fed into a Korg Monotron. I recorded several passes and synced up the sounds in real time while listening to each take. After the loops were recorded, I added some reverb in Logic. I also drew a picture to go with this post.

According to Korg, the filter in the Monotron is the same filter in the classic Korg MS-20 synthesizer, so I wanted to make use of it to process sounds. Also, I’ve recently been inspired to use the Monotron since hearing the Widesky (aka Seth Chrisman) album called Phase Portraits. Be sure to check that out to hear how far the synth can go. Seth makes great music.

The Buddha Machine by FM3 is something I used on my album – Waiting. FM3 featured my song Transporter as their ‘remix of the week’ just this past week, which was really an honor. I used one of the loops in that piece. If you are not familiar with the Buddha Machine, check it out. It basically plays only a couple of loops over and over on a small, cheap speaker, making it the ‘anti-ipod’.
