340 – Erase Head Modification (reel to reel)


I added a switch to my reel to reel today that bypasses the erase head. The modification took a good deal of time to do properly, but it was worth the effort. The inspiration for this mod came from hearing David Andree and Josh Mason’s recordings on the Sunshine LTD label. Here are two examples of sounds created by turning off the erase head and running a tape loop through the machine. They both have an overdriven quality, especially the second example.
