I’ve been thinking about Musique Concrète lately, so I thought it might be fun to create something in that vein with a lot of the sounds I’ve collected. In today’s sound clip, you will hear a variety of sounds, some of which have been featured on this blog: a purring kitten, matches burning, vinyl clicks and pops, contact mic’d floor, a cooking pot lid, fire, and my father making tea. I think I felt compelled to try something today because I’ve been thinking about John Cage (he would have been 100). He challenged us to think about what music really is. You would never hear all of these sounds at one time and they create interesting textures together. To me this excercise proves that all sounds and noises have inherent musicality.
