Tonight’s audio is the result of experimenting with a fun application called Forester. This was written by Leafcutter John, a songwriter, electronic musician, and artist from London. His music and work is very interesting and worth checking out.

The way this application works is pretty simple. You load a folder of audio files for it to use as material, and then it generates a ‘forest’ of circles. The red dot navigates through these circles and creates sound based on a couple of different settings. You can set it to loop the sound it collects along the way and also modulate it.

Forester is a lot of fun because you can’t control every parameter. Choosing sounds I thought would blend together well, I mostly used lapharp drones from a song I created called ‘The Glass House’. I’ve had Forester sitting in my applications folder for several years, but I never used it much. Doing a thing a day has forced me to really explore all the tools I have and I’m grateful that I have them. I hope you enjoy the sounds – if you want to try Forester, you can download it here (it isn’t updated anymore but it worked fine on my machine).
