050 – Hydrophone Tests


 

 
This morning I went back to the lake to test the hydrophone again. This was much more successful. I went to a different, more rocky part of the lake. I found that the hydrophone didn’t move around as much here and it was easier to get a clean recording. This area was closer to a road and I think there are faint traces of a truck in the first one, which was made by letting the hydrophone sit on a man made concrete dock/ramp going into the water, meant for boats. It picked up more sound here than yesterday (when it was in the sand), probably due to the sonorous qualities of the dock.
 
The second recording is the hydrophone underneath a rock. This recording sounds different than the first. I am much happier with these recordings today.
