350 – Some of My Favorite Things

(photo from my walk in the park today)

With the end of the year coming up, I figured that today I would make a list of some of my favorite recordings from 2012. As I made it, I started to realize how many great things came out this year and sort of gave up on a best of list. I decided to put together a giant list of great recordings. They’re not really in a particular order:

Lotophagen by Sunhammer + Radere
Below Sea Level by Simon Scott
Faint by Taylor Deupree
Lux by Brian Eno
Terrain by Saguache
Jeremiad by Josh Mason
Trust by Airbird
Into The Fade by Billy Gomberg
Vapor by Brad Heyne + Josh Mason
The Baroque Atrium by Panabrite
A Dream In Blood by Sunhammer
I’ll Make You Quiet by Radere
Sanibel by Smyth
Between (self-titled 12k collaborative)
Home by Darren Harper & Jared Smyth
Two Rooms by Unrecognizable Now
Within That Aura by Widesky
Phase Portrait by Widesky
Tessellations by Marcus Fischer + The Ooray
Land by Porya Hatami
Radioland (Panorámica) by Stephan Mathieu + Caro Mikalef
Into The Woods by Ethernet
Seam by Steinbrüchel + Cory Allen
Return to New Caledonia by Kate Carr
Other Room Listening by Zvuku

Contrail by Kane Ikin
Liquid Light Forms by Koen Holtkamp
Not A Leaf Remains As It Was by Steve Roden and Steve Peters
I remember how we were standing on Chesil Beach, we hardly said a word by Steiner

A lot of these are from the 12k record label, which had an amazing year and released several wonderful albums in succession, some of which I left off of the list. The latest, Between, came out on 12.12.12 and is a collaboration between Marcus Fischer, Taylor Deupree, Corey Fuller, Tomoyoshi Date, and Simon Scott. Lots of textures + wonderful sounds and it might be my choice for ‘album of the year’ if I had to pick. In addition to 12k, other labels that were great this year were: Analog Path, Flaming Pines, Future Sequence, and the cassette label Constellation Tatsu. Also, even though this list is very long, there are still more that I could have put on there. Goodnight.
