332 – 4 Track Repair

Tonight’s project was a repair. This is my Tascam MF-P01. I’ve had this for about 10 years now and I dug it out of my parents attic about a year ago, discovering that it didn’t work. It wouldn’t play back any tracks, but showed levels when plugging something in. So, I kept it, figuring it would be a good repair project.
 
After searching for help, I finally found a couple of people that were having the exact same problem over at Fix-ya, a site I plan on using more in the future. The fix was to replace 4 capacitors on the lower board. After that, my old 4 track came back to life.
 
The next thing I plan to do is add a toggle switch to disable the erase head so I can layer sounds on top of each other on single tracks. This thing will be my guinea pig since I also want to modify my reel to reel, but don’t want to start messing around with that until I’m more comfortable.
