236 – TX81z Returns

A couple months back, the TX81z that I had repaired 2 times had stopped working again, so I gave up on it. I saw this one on the local Craigslist and figured I would give the synth another shot. I got a great deal on it and it’s in like new condition. Once I saw it, I realized that the one I got on eBay was really beat up.
 
To celebrate, I played with some of my favorite presets. I love the crystalline, 80’s style FM keyboards this thing can do. They remind me of the ones Squarepusher uses in his songs Tommib and Tommib Help Buss (two of my favorites). Pretty sure that he’s using the TX81z on those tracks. The unit also does some great basses and string sounds. It’ll be nice to create some loops on the reel to reel with this soon.
